Our Model

A structured framework supporting women veterans in long-horizon wilderness leadership development.

Why Structure Matters

Wilderness Pathfinder Connections is not a collection of programs. It is an interconnected leadership ecosystem.

We believe sustainable guide development requires more than inspiration. It requires structure, accountability, and continuity.

Our model was designed to support women veterans from initial calling through mentorship, training access, and eventual leadership contribution.

Each pathway strengthens the others.

The Three Core Pathways

Guide Development Pathway

A vetted development track for women veterans pursuing wilderness leadership training, professional certifications, and long-term guide development.

Mentorship Pathway

A structured stewardship role for experienced guides committed to preparing the next generation through mentorship, readiness assessment, and ethical oversight.

Community Contribution Framework

An internal reciprocity structure through which participants give back to the community as their experience and leadership grow.

How the Structure Functions

Applicants enter through the Guide Development Pathway.

Accepted participants gain access to mentorship support and eligibility for internal funding consideration.

Mentors provide structured guidance, readiness assessment, and ethical oversight.

As participants grow in experience, they may eventually step into mentorship roles themselves.

This creates continuity rather than fragmentation.

What This Pathway Can Look Like

A woman veteran applies through the Guide Development Pathway after identifying wilderness guiding as a long-term calling.

Following the review process, she is accepted into the development track and pairs with an experienced mentor within the network.

With mentorship support, she pursues key professional training such as wilderness medical certification, guiding intensives, or other advanced skill development required for responsible field leadership.

Funding from Wilderness Pathfinder Connections helps offset the financial barriers that often prevent capable guides from pursuing these opportunities.

As her training deepens and experience grows, she remains connected within the network — eventually contributing back through mentorship, collaboration, or leadership support for future participants.

This cycle of access, development, and contribution allows the system to strengthen itself over time.
